It was 1981 and I had just married and moved to Miami.  I didn't know a soul.  Lonely for my family and friends in Bethesda, I was stunned to run into a high school acquaintence, Andy Waks who quickly informed me that his sister, Nancy, also lived in Miami.  Within days, Nancy and I picked up where we left off in high school, and I was ecstatic to have her back in my life.  During the next eight years we were inseparable.  She saw me through the birth of my three children, and I watched her complete her family with a son Nicky, and daughter Michelle.  When work brought my family to Atlanta in 1989, I tearfully bid Nancy and her beautiful family goodby.  She was a wonderful, kind and giving person.  Her friendship anchored me at time when I needed it most.  And for that, I will be forever grateful to her.  Nancy developed Lupus after we moved away and with the demands of work and family, we lost touch.  But we never lost our deep connection to each other and our common past.  May her memory always be a blessing to those who loved and knew her.
